Before We Get There

What you shut off depends on what is failing. These three cover almost every call we take at night.

Water is spreading

Close the main shutoff where the line enters the house, usually near the front hose bib, in the garage, or on the street side of the building. If that valve will not turn, the valve inside the meter box at the curb shuts off everything.

The water heater is leaking or making noise

Shut off the cold water supply at the valve on top of the tank. On a gas unit, turn the gas control to off. On an electric unit, switch off the breaker that feeds it. Do not try to drain a tank that is still under pressure.

You smell gas

Leave the building before you do anything else. Do not use light switches, do not unplug anything, and do not make the call from inside. Once you are outside and away from the property, call 911, then call PG&E at 1-877-660-6789. PG&E is the natural gas provider across our service area and handles gas emergencies around the clock. Call us once they have made the property safe, not before.

What We Ask and What We Tell You

An emergency call is short on purpose. We want four things: what you are seeing, whether the water or gas is off, where the property is, and whether anyone needs to stay clear of part of the house.

From there you get a straight answer about when a technician can be with you. If the honest answer is longer than you want to hear, you will hear it anyway, because a number invented to keep you on the phone helps nobody at two in the morning.

If the situation is one you can hold safely until morning, we will say that too. The decision stays with you. If you want someone tonight, someone comes tonight.

Stabilize, Diagnose, Then Quote

The first job is to stop the loss. Water off, gas isolated, pressure released, whatever the situation calls for. Nothing is billed as a repair at that stage.

Then we find the cause. Once we know what failed, you get the flat-rate price before any work starts, and nothing proceeds until you approve it. Our dispatcher goes through what an after-hours call involves before a technician is sent, so the number you see on site is the one you were told to expect.

Some repairs are finished on the spot. Others cannot be. A sewer lateral that needs excavation, or a water heater that has to be replaced with a permit and an inspection, is not a job that gets completed properly in the dark. In those cases we make the property safe and usable, and we schedule the permanent repair for the next working day. We will tell you which of the two you are looking at before you approve anything.

What Cannot Wait and What Can

If you want a technician tonight, you get one. These two lists are here so you can judge for yourself whether tonight is worth it.

Call now

Usually safe until morning

  • A dripping faucet or a running toilet
  • One slow drain while the rest of the house drains normally
  • Weak pressure at a single fixture
  • A water heater that is working but noisy
  • A garbage disposal that has jammed

If you are not sure which list you are on, call and describe it. Sorting that out over the phone costs you nothing.

Coverage, Stated Plainly

Round-the-clock emergency response covers Sacramento County and the surrounding area, including Roseville, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Carmichael and Rocklin.

Our trucks are based on Roseville Road in North Highlands, close to the center of the county, which is why we are rarely far from the call. We do not promise a number of minutes, because traffic and the job before yours decide that. What we promise is an honest estimate when you call and a technician who is already nearby.

Our South Bay operation works on standard scheduling and does not run an overnight emergency service. If you are in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Gatos or Fremont, reach that team at (669) 280-7227 during business hours.
