What to Do Right Now, and What Can Wait Until Morning

Not every sewer problem is an emergency, and paying emergency rates for one that could have waited is money wasted. Here is how we triage the call when you reach us.

Call us now

  • Sewage coming up through a tub, shower pan, or floor drain
  • Waste standing in the cleanout, or surfacing anywhere in the yard
  • Nothing in the house will drain at all

Every hour of this spreads contamination into flooring, drywall, and subfloor, and the cleanup starts costing more than the pipe. We answer around the clock for exactly these three.

Book today, before it moves up to the first list

  • Two or more fixtures draining slowly at the same time
  • A clog that a plumber cleared and that came back within days
  • Sewage odor indoors that does not go away

What to Do Right Now, and What Can Wait Until Morning

This week, before it becomes the first list

  • One drain that clogs every few months at roughly the same footage down the line
  • A soft or sunken strip of ground along the path of the line
  • A previous plumber told you the line needs work and you never followed up

Still not sure which line you are on? The full set of warning signs is laid out on our main sewer line page.

Every repair starts with a camera

We do not price a dig from symptoms. A sewer line camera inspection puts eyes on the pipe, marks the depth and footage of the defect on the surface, and tells us whether you are looking at one bad joint or a line that has run out of service life. That footage is what your written quote is built on, and you get to watch it with the technician.

Build note: two internal links in this block. Anchor «main sewer line page» to /services/sewer-line/, anchor «sewer line camera inspection» to /services/sewer-line-camera-inspection/. On the hub, add the reverse link from its symptoms block to this page.

What Sewer Line Repair Covers

Repair means we open the ground at the defect, fix what is broken, and close it back up. Everything upstream and downstream of that point stays where it is. These are the failures we repair most often in Sacramento County.

  • Root intrusion. We cut the mass out, then replace the compromised section so roots cannot grow back through the same opening.
  • Cracked or collapsed sections. Ground movement, heavy vehicles over a shallow line, and decades of clay or cast iron fatigue all end the same way.
  • Offset joints. Two lengths of pipe that no longer line up create a ledge that catches everything passing over it.
  • Bellied line. A dip where soil settled underneath. Water sits in the low spot instead of draining, and solids collect in the standing water.
  • Broken or missing cleanout. If there is no accessible cleanout, every future service call on the line costs you more. Installing one is often the cheapest thing we do all day.
  • Failed transitions. The joint where old clay or cast iron meets newer ABS is a common failure point, and it is repairable on its own.

On repairs we replace the failed section with modern ABS or PVC and proper couplings, which means the piece we touched is now the strongest part of the run.

Spot Repair or Section Replacement: How the Camera Decides

Repair is not one size. The footage tells us how much pipe has to come out, and that is the difference between a one day job and a two day one. Here is how the two options compare once we know what we are looking at.

Spot repair

Section replacement

What the camera shows
One defect with sound pipe on both sides of it
Several defects clustered inside one stretch of the run
What we replace
The damaged joint or length at the marked footage
The full run between two sound points
Access
A single pit at the defect
An open cut along the affected stretch
What it does not solve
Deterioration anywhere else the camera flagged
The condition of the pipe outside that stretch

Repair is the honest answer when the camera finds sound pipe on both sides of the damage. When it shows a line that is failing end to end, replacing one stretch only buys time, and we will say so rather than sell you the smaller job twice. Full replacement is a different project with two method options, and our main sewer line page lays out how they compare.
